Today Is National Hairball Awareness Day

As a cat owner, there are a few measures to take as a way to prevent your cat from getting Hairballs.  Regular brushing helps remove much of your cat’s loose fur, allowing for less hair to be consumed in your cat’s daily grooming routine.  Feeding your cat a specially formulated blend of hairball care food may also be beneficial.

April Is National Heartworm Awareness Month

Heartworm Prevention generally requires nothing more than monthly medication. Preventative Medications kill any larval heartworms present before they have a chance to develop into adult heartworms. In most cases, these medications are safe and effective, and some of them offer protection from other parasites as well. To counter our region’s year-round population of mosquitoes, we strongly recommended year-round preventative medication.

Coughing In Cats Veterinary Hospital In Philadelphia

Coughing is both an involuntary and voluntary response—we don’t have to think about activating it. Its purpose as an automatic reaction is to help keep the pharynx and airways free of foreign bodies and secretions. Coughing is not a disease itself but can be associated with an underlying medial problem. When a cat coughs it usually is triggered by an irritation or inflammation in the bronchi or trachea.

Litter Box Issues Philadelphia Veterinary Hospital

Cats are most stereotyped as “the independent pet.” Despite these accusations they are actually very affectionate pets that need attention just as much as dogs. They are however, very particular when it comes to the use of their litter box. Tidiness, placement and even the size of their litter box can all play a factor in deterring them away from using their litter pan. If you notice your Feline Friend not utilizing the litter box for his bathroom needs, this may serve as an indication of something being “wrong” with the litter box or that there is an underlying medical condition.
